Very good post as others have mentioned.

I review iPhone games so check out some of my reviews of the top iphone games and make sure to leave feedback

Hi Rachel!

Thanks a lot for reading what was my attempt at making sense of some patterns I'd been observing. While I'm clearly not an expert on what happens in the mobile domain, I guess I'd define paradigms more like 'eras' or phases...?

If my argument had any merit, a paradigm would last for varying periods depending on how well people embraced certain archetypes. The iPhone's app-centric metaphor gave rise to a mobile UX paradigm that everyone else started adopting. This strengthened the archetype, making the paradigm last longer. Maybe now with Windows Phone 7, we'll see a new paradigm shift occur?

Just thinking out loud. What do you think? :)

Thanks for the thought-provoking post, Rahul.

Given your thoughts regarding archetypes and metaphors... curious how you define paradigms. What do you think is the difference between a mobile UX archetype and a mobile UX paradigm? Or are they the same thing?

[...] Archetypes and Their Use in Mobile UXHave you ever needed a user manual to sit on a good chair? Probably not. When we see a good chair, we almost always know exactly what to do, how to use it and what not to do with it. And yet, chairs are made by the thousands, and several challenge these base assumptions to become classics in their own right. The chair is one of the most universally recognized archetypes known to us. In light of recent events in the mobile realm, I believe that the stage is set to probe notions of archetypes in the mobile space. [...]

Thanks, with all the hoopla about metaphors over the last few years, I didn't realise we could look at archetypes instead. It'd be interesting to read more about them.
