It’s easy to edit and design articles. It’s not easy to edit and design big discussions, which is what this article is mainly about. If 30 talented, professional writer-come-editors got together and had a long written conversation, in any standard format, it would still suffer badly from all of the first three sins.

Disorder, clutter, redundancy, inconsistency, inaccuracy, pointlessness and rudeness. What’s needed here is professional writing, editing and design. You know, like in “old media.”

Hello Nicolas,

I think these are pretty solid criticisms of the way in which conversational collaboration is mediated by awkward and incomplete process. All of which reduce the potential for good dialogue, which in turn may turn people off the idea of even trying.

Oddly enough I have just written a piece on digital collaboration, but more focussed on making a piece of work together.

It’d be great to hear what you think.
