There are multiple reasons for this, but in short: we’ve reached a lot of the goals that we’ve wanted to and feel now that it’s time for others to pick up on this track. Our goal has always been to help the community think of interaction design on a more strategic level, helping each other understand where we belong and how we can make a difference. We’ve tried to bring the community together and to bridge the gap between disciplines and fields, and I believe we have succeeded… Over 150 people wrote for Johnny and together we published almost 600 articles, resulting in great discussions and often new insights. We reported live at many interesting events (resulting in late nights and missed parties), published beautiful Radio Johnny podcasts (thanks Jeff) and had a very interesting Johnny TV channel (thanks Martin). I personally learned a lot from all the people I had a chance to work with and had a lot of fun working with the editors and especially Vicky, who helped out from the start.
But to all good things come an end. Johnny is doing a good job and we could go on like this for some more years, but for Johnny that simply isn’t good enough. We want to make a difference, an impact in the community. Not just be ‘another source.’ So for now we will step aside until we’ve found a way to make a difference again.
I want to thank everybody who contributed to Johnny, by writing, editing or commenting. I have a learned a lot from you.
So long, and thanks for all the fish…

I don’t know how to express my admiration and gratitude to you, Jeroen, for all your hard work. In addition, the Johnny Army did some amazing work over the years. I’ll miss “doing the Johnny” as well as reading and hearing stories and interviews and reports here.
I had the honor to write an article for this blog and to say the least it was a great learning experience. Thanks Jeroen for giving me the opportunity to do so and it was great knowing you
Kudos Jeroen and Team! Pioneers of UX, keeping us educated, collaborative, and humble. Onto the next 100 years!
Well done Johnny! Thank you for allowing me to participate (both as a reader and a writer) in such an amazing group. Looking forward to see what’s next

I’m a little sad to see Johnny go.. The articles and level of education for the community that was achieved with Johnny Holland was just amazing. It will be missed. It was more than just another source.
But things must move on.
Hey as a junior UXer this has been a great place to help wrap my head around how things should work, thanks for helping guide myself and others along – you will be missed

Thanks for all your work and all the writing
Congrats on a job well done, for sure. I hope that you will be able to keep your content online. If not, please come back to the community so we can help keep it available: either with money or by helping move it to another place (maybe Boxes & Arrows would fold it in, just as 1 example).
You will be missed, and you made a difference. Thanks for sharing the insight, and I hope you resume writing again down the road!
Wow, will very much miss Johnny, but looking forward to your next ‘way to make a difference’. Thanks!

The idea “we want to impact the community” sounds great. I think many of followers of Johnny have some ideas about what could be great, but as it happens often, ideas is not enough. Thanks for your energy!
And, Jeroen, it was nice to see you in Moscow this year.

Thanks for all you’ve done Jeroen, and thanks to your many writers and readers. While I’m sad to see this go, I’m a firm believer in new beginnings. I’m sure this has taken a lot of your time; we’re only on the planet once, and there are many things to do in the world off the screen. Cheers!
