How To Turn On Roku Tv Without Remote- A Guide To Using Roku Tv

Every Roku TV comes with its unique remote control, but you should keep in mind that anything can happen to such remote control at any time. For this reason, you must have an alternative way to operate your Roku TV when the remote control malfunctions or it gets lost. Even if the remote control doesn’t get lost or become faulty, having alternative controls to operate your Roku TV is always a more convenient way of watching your shows.

So, How Do You Turn on Roku Without Remote?

Download the Roku app from your android Google play store or IOS device on your smartphone or tablet PC, then connect the app and your tablet PC or smartphone to the same Wi-Fi internet as the Roku TV. Next, select your Roku TV on the app and click on the remote icon, and you can quickly turn it on and off.

How Can You Use Your Roku TV Without The Remote?

The first step, of course, is to download the Roku app and install it on your smartphone or any other smart device capable of doing that.  Keep in mind that you must connect your Roku device and your smartphone to the same device; otherwise, the steps to operating your Roku TV without a remote may not work.

If your Roku TV was previously connected to a Wi-Fi that your smartphone can’t connect to, then you must connect the devices via a hotspot.

Roku app is available on Google play store for android device users and Apple App Store for Apple devices like iPhones. Once you have downloaded and install the Roku app on your smartphone, please open it and follow the on-screen instructions for further steps. You may have to agree to some terms of services before you can go further with these steps.

Tap on the devices you will see at the bottom of your screen, and if it is your first time using the app with your Roku TV, you will need to click on “OK” to detect your devices, especially your Roku TV, automatically.

Select your Roku device, which is your TV, then click on the remote icon; a plus icon represents this- click on this to add any device to the remote app on your smartphone.

With the addition of your Roku TV to the app on your smartphone, you can now use the remote to control the TV as long as you are within range. You can use your smartphone app to control the channels you visit, volume, and all other features on the TV as long as you want. It is also essential that your Wi-Fi is always on when you choose to use the remote app inside the smartphone.

Since Roku automatically detects the last Wi-Fi it remembers, you wouldn’t be able to use the remote app on your phone when you are outside of your home or office. You can’t use the remote app on your smartphone with another Roku TV in another place, such as a hotel.

Make sure you set up your W-Fi and Roku devices with the same username and password so you can remember easily.

Connecting All Roku Devices With One Wi-Fi Via Mobile Hotspot

The purpose of setting up a hotspot is to ensure that other smartphone users in your family can use their Roku app installed on their smartphone to access a single Roku TV or any other device.

You need to create a mobile hotspot with one device, which is the one with the first name and password as the Wi-Fi network your first Roku app was linked with.

Please make sure the Roku app is already downloaded and installed by other users on their smartphones. You cannot set up a hotspot on your smartphone and then connect the same device to the hotspot via the Roku app.  Make sure you give the username and password of your Wi-Fi to other users.

It would be best to give your hotspot the same name and password as the last Wi-Fi network you connected your Roku device to. Then, join other devices to the hotspot. Keep in mind that your smartphone will likely be the one with the hotspot because you downloaded the Roku app first, and the hotspot is there.

Go to Settings, then click on General and then Wi-Fi, then connect other phones to the hotspot you have set up on your smartphone. You need to repeat these steps for other smartphones or devices that want to share Roku TV with you.

Download and open the Roku app on other devices connected to your hotspot. Then, go and click “Devices” on that other smartphone and select your Roku TV. If you can’t find the device for the first time, refresh and scroll down to the bottom again, and you will likely see it there.

Tap on the Remote icon on the smartphone you are linking to your hotspot, and the person can start using the app to control the Roku TV. Use that remote on the app to access the settings, then use the up and down arrow keys to control the Roku TV. Select the Network from the same page and then go to the “Set up connection” before choosing “Wireless” and click on “OK” on the remote. The streaming device will start searching for all available wireless networks, and then you can enter the password and click on “Connect” to connect the device to the Wi-Fi.

How To Manually Update Your Roku Device

By default, your Roku device should update itself every 24 to 48 hours. However, there are times when the device will not update itself quickly enough. So don’t be in a hurry to update the device, and you may want to leave another 24 hours before updating it manually.

Updating your Roku device will give you access to the newest features as they are released. To update the device manually, press the Home button on the remote control, then press the left arrow directional button to direct you to the menu bar located on the left side.

Click on “Settings,” which can be done by pressing the directional button that points upward once. Next, press the OK button in the middle of the remote. Next, click on “Systems” by pressing the directional button again that pointed upward, once. Again, press the OK button once.

From here, click on the “Systems update.” You can do this by pressing the right directional button or the OK button, and then the device will highlight the System update option. At this stage, the screen will display the last time you checked your Roku device for an update alongside the last time you updated it.

If you never initiated an update, but you see your Roku device updated within the last 24 to 36 hours, it means you don’t need to check for an update.

Select “Check Now.” The home button is that house-shape logo located at the top of the remote.

If there is an update available, click on “Update Now,” which will automatically prompt the device to start looking for updates. It would be best if you allowed the device to check for updates automatically. If you receive a message that indicates “Updates available,” continue to the net step as directed.

If you click on “Check now” and see a display that reads “Unable to update software,” you must immediately check that Roku is connected to the Wi-Fi network. First, go to Settings, click on Network, and then click on “Check Connection.” If there is any issue with your internet connection, go to “Settings,” and then click on “Network,” and then click on “Set up connection.”

Choose the Network you want to set up and enter your password. Once the connection is reconnected, go back to “Select update now” and press OK on the remote. Your Roku device should automatically begin updating at this stage.

The Roku device update will take few minutes depending on the speed of your internet network, the size of the upgrade, and how long you carried out the last upgrade. Once the update is completed, you must wait for your device to restart. You must not interrupt the device when restarting to avoid a break in the update.
