I’ve been to Tampa Bay’s Tampa Bay Rays Stadium a few times now. It’s a pretty nice stadium, and the tickets are very cheap. Also, it’s a pretty big stadium. The place is about 10,000 seats. I went there to watch the New York Yankees play against the Rays. The stadium is nice and has a retractable roof, which is why it’s called a dome. The roof actually has a glass panel on the top, which I thought was pretty cool.

My First Indoor MLB Stadium Experience

 With our home season being April to September, the Milwaukee Brewers typically have a home game on any weekday, so I am always excited to play in the Dome. But, when the temperature is low outside, I am excited when we get to play in these games because I get to play in the Dome during the winter.

My First True Baseball Dome and Indoor Baseball Field Experience

I enjoyed the stadium for the Rays and the atmosphere. The stadium seats were fairly decent, so I was expecting the stadium to be packed. However, the stadium was not what I expected. It was not a packed stadium, it was more of an empty stadium with the exception of a few people. The overall look of the ballpark is that of an indoor venue. Overall, I was pretty happy with the stadium experience.

I believe that the Rays should not get into issues or try to be more of a popular team. They are a baseball team and that is what they are. I do not think that they should cater to the fans. If you want to be popular in Tampa Bay, you have to be willing to stand up for what you believe in. If you are trying to be popular by going after younger crowds, or by throwing a party at the stadium, you are going to be the new team that nobody likes. I believe that the Rays are in it for the long haul and that they are going to be around for years like the Sox, Yankees, and A’s. I would have a hard time calling the Rays a bandwagoner team. You are going to have to earn your popularity in Tampa Bay.

Positives of a Roof: Don’t Worry about the Weather

Rogers Centre Open vs. Closed Experience

Rogers Centre is a sports arena that is an international architectural landmark. The CN Tower is a downtown landmark right next to it and you can see the city skyline. With the roof open during the game, this was the perfect environment. It was quite quiet and you could hear nothing except for the sounds of the ball and bats.

I had no worries about the roof at Blue Jays, and even though I’m usually not impressed with the weather when I go to see the Yankees vs. Red Sox games at Fenway, the roof at Rogers Centre was a relief in this case.

Seattle has played in Safeco Field since 1995, but has played at T-Mobile Field since 2000 in between Safeco Field and Anaheim Stadium. For the 2005 season, T-Mobile Field was renamed in honor of the original T-Mobile, which was headquartered in Bellevue, WA.

The Rogers Centre was the home of the Toronto Blue Jays for three years beginning in 1999. It replaced the SkyDome, and was the first new major league park since 1989. The Rogers Centre was designed to “echo” the feeling of being at a ball game. The facade of the Rogers Centre is made of glass, with a metal structure rising above the roof that resembles a baseball. The seats are movable and, like the roof, are designed to move with the wind.

Minute Maid Park is an American baseball stadium in Houston, Texas that has been the home of the Houston Astros since the park opened in April 1960. It has a seating capacity of 40,000, and is named for its sponsor, Minute Maid orange juice.

The Phoenix-area Major League Baseball stadium is the home of the Diamondbacks.

Miami isn’t known for having a great park but this should do it.

Rangers played host to the New York Yankees on Friday, May 21, 2019 in Arlington, Texas. The visiting team won the game 2-0. The home team had to forfeit 3 home runs as they were not allowed to play with men short. This was one of the few times a ball was allowed home.

The Milwaukee Brewers played at Miller Park for twenty seasons from 1995 to 2014. That period of time has been marked by winning records, exciting moments, fan-friendly facilities and a winning organization.

Parks That Almost got a Roof

Should All Baseball Park’s Have a Retractable Roof?

The new Yankee Stadium did get rid of the roof but did get the best of the retractable roof. The retractable roof is an older design but the way this new design was thought up was better than the older retractable design.

I was excited about the new Yankee Stadium, but it really didn’t have any of the fancy stuff that comes with new parks, but it did have a massive retractable roof for the first time in the stadium’s history and the seats were all quite open and spacious. The fans started taking advantage of it about a week before the Yankees played their first game there and it was already really cold and rainy on opening day. The retractable roof would be nice when you were there for a game.

I truly believe that retractable roofs are the future of baseball. I think the retractable roof helps baseball in many ways. A retractable roof brings in more atmosphere than a traditional roof, and also keeps the ball in the ballpark even if it rains. As a former baseball player, I was disappointed when we decided to discontinue the use of the roof in the early 70’s. However, I have come to appreciate all the advantages that the retractable roof has allowed for me throughout the years.

Reasons for a Roof

It was hot that year and I don’t know about people who live where it’s always hot but for me, a Florida native, that was a really hot week. Not only did baseball not happen for us, but it started raining. And it didn’t stop. We went into the season expecting to see baseball, but there were only two real baseball games.

In the past, the MLB has made mistakes. They failed to enforce the 50 player roster limit that forced teams to carry more players than they wanted. The Orioles won four World Series in a row from 1996-1999, but they would have won five if not for their roster limit. In recent years, the MLB has tried to balance the roster limit with creating a more competitive game. It’s a difficult balance, but one that can be worth winning another World Series.

I’m not saying that a domed baseball stadium is necessary for a place to be loud, but some parks like Kansas City, San Diego, or Los Angeles Angels would be so much louder if they had a roof to bounce the noise back on the field. I really don’t like the idea of going to the movies or just hanging out in a really loud place. I’d rather have a roof that makes it much quieter instead of being able to go to a normal place and have it be a lot louder.

Final Thoughts of MLB Domes

It’s always nice to be able to stay inside the ballpark and not worry about the weather. If the roof would be an option, I would prefer it to be retractable.

As the Cardinals move towards the beginning of their 2017 season, it’s important to note that over 1 million paying fans are currently on a wait list. Despite the fact that the building is the most modern in the league, there are not many amenities to keep fans comfortable during the long waits in their seats. While many of these concessions are small, small improvements would greatly help the waiting list.

I would say Safeco Field has the ability to have a roof. They have been known to put in a roof for special events, but that hasn’t happened that I know of. I’m not sure if it’s open or not during the average season.
